I'm putting a list of various races and species found in here. I think it'll help people in the future find a base for developing their own characters.
Just an index for now, put I'll post replies to this thread with in depth descriptions of each individual race, their origin, background, any notable abilities, etc.

Aelf

Aelf (pronounced ay - el - f) is a word in their tongue that means quite literally "myself"

This should immediately tell you that Aelfen are self centered and place a heavy importance on their own superiority. This cannot be helped however as their species is one of the oldest in the material sphere, though they are hardly the most successful or even the most advanced.

Basically, they're akin to a race of Boomers, and have a general cultural mindset of being better than everyone else on account of the 'rich and ancient history' of their people. They are very good at politics however, due to a number of evolutionary traits that they gained from their progenation.

The Aelf did not evolve from the animal kingdom, but rather from the plant kingdom of life. They're descended from a particularly vicious breed of carnivorous plant that would imitate it's prey's form in order to get close enough to strike.
if you need any further clarification, their distantly related to the B'tulak, who also descended from the same breed of carnivorous plant.

Aelf do have a long history, but it is largely devoid of major events due entirely to the fact that very little actually happens for them. The world they developed on was particularly stable with a long orbit around it's star, equating roughly 237 earth years to one of theirs. They're slow to react to events and tend to spend enormous amounts of time thinking and considering before actually taking action

In spite of this, they can move quite quickly in short bursts, and have reaction speeds that are nearly equal to that of the Mantis shrimp's punch. And likewise to the Mantis Shrimp, their eyes are significantly more advanced, allowing them to see everything up to the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums.

They are however quite frail, lacking the hard endo skeleton of mammals. Their cells, like those of plants, have cell walls, which over time causes them to have an almost wooden, doll like appearance, as parts of their body completely solidify. This is partly what causes them to weigh so much less than a other creatures, as they are essentially made of wood.
