Lola Simmons is your typical emo girl, except she isn't suicidal. She just has the emo style, she listens to the typical emo bands, and she's actually quite cheerful for someone who follows the emo lifestyle. She's a beautiful girl, and all the guys like her, but she never notices. She's too busy being cheerful and listening to her music to notice any boys. Well, she does notice one boy on the first day of summer break at a beach party.

Channing Hughes is a nerd. While other teens are out having fun at parties, he is outside reading a book with an ice cold glass of lemonade. He has plenty of friends, and no, not all of them are nerds. He doesn't have the huge glasses, nor does he have baggy clothes. He dresses like a normal teenage boy. To say he's quite handsome is an understatement. He's a gorgeous boy, and everyone knows it, except for him.

Lola is invited to a beach party of the first day of summer, and that is where she meets Channing. He's not participating at the party, he's just reading a book at the beach.
